Privacy Policy

DecideMyMeal ("we," "our," "the site") is a static, no-account meal decision tool. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the site touches and why.

The short version

DecideMyMeal has no user accounts, no server-side database, and no login. Your favorites, recently viewed meals, and filter preferences are stored only in your browser's localStorage — a small amount of data that stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. We never sell personal data.

Information we collect

We do not collect personal information through any form, account, or server-side process, because none exist on this site. The only information gathered is the limited, non-identifying usage data described below under "Third-party analytics and advertising," and only once you've opted in.

Third-party analytics and advertising

If enabled, DecideMyMeal may use analytics tools (such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or Microsoft Clarity) and, in the future, advertising (such as Google AdSense or Meta Pixel) to understand site usage and support the site financially. These services may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, governed by their own privacy policies. They only load after you accept the relevant category (Analytics or Advertising) in our cookie consent banner — see Cookie Policy. Cloudflare Web Analytics, where used, is cookieless by design and is not gated by consent for that reason.

If we ever add affiliate links (for example, an Amazon Associates tag on an ingredient link), clicking them may let the destination retailer know you came from DecideMyMeal, per that retailer's own tracking practices. This does not change what we ourselves collect.

Browser storage (not a server-side database)

• Favorite meals you've saved
• Recently viewed and recently recommended meals (so we can avoid repeating suggestions)
• Meals you've marked as cooked, or hidden ("not interested")
• Your last-used filters in the Decision Tool
• Your cookie consent choice

None of this data leaves your browser. Clearing your browser's site data, or using a private/incognito window, removes it entirely. We have no way to see, recover, or restore it, because we never receive it.

Data retention

Because we don't collect personal data on our servers, we have no retention schedule to disclose for data we hold — there is none. Data in your browser's localStorage persists until you clear it, your browser's storage limits force eviction, or you clear site data manually. Your cookie consent choice is re-asked automatically after the interval configured in src/config/analytics.ts (180 days by default). Third-party analytics/advertising providers retain data they collect according to their own retention policies.

International users

DecideMyMeal is hosted on Cloudflare's global network and can be accessed from anywhere. Because the site itself stores no personal data server-side, there is no cross-border transfer of personal data by us to disclose. Any third-party analytics or advertising providers you consent to may process data outside your country of residence, subject to their own compliance mechanisms — see our GDPR page for European-user specifics.

Cookies

DecideMyMeal itself does not set tracking cookies. Any cookies present come from optional third-party analytics or advertising scripts described above. See our Cookie Policy for details.

Children's privacy

DecideMyMeal is a general-audience site and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Because we don't collect or store personal data on our servers, there is generally nothing for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf — that data already lives entirely on your device. For rights related to third-party analytics or advertising providers, refer to those providers' own privacy tools and opt-outs. See our dedicated GDPR page for more detail on European user rights. California residents: the same logic applies under the CCPA — we do not sell personal information, and there is no personal information on our servers to request access to or deletion of.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above.
